Join us for a new presentation on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 7:00 pm: Sugar Beets & Sugar Processing in Lenawee County.

Gary Holmes is our speaker, often referred to as the Blissfield Historian, Gary has had a life-long interest in local history. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in History and went on to a career at Blissfield Middle School where, among other positions, he spent 15 years in the classroom sharing his passion for history with his students.

Gary is active in the Blissfield Historical Society and a member of the Blissfield Bicentennial Committee. In 2020, he oversaw the 75th anniversary commemoration of the 1945 Halloween disaster that claimed the lives of 16 German POWs and is currently engaged in planning the Blissfield Bicentennial Celebration.

Gary will be speaking on the sugar industry in Lenawee County, including immigration, harvesting, and processing sugar beets.

The program will take place in the Frazier Auditorium at the Museum. The doors will open at 6:00 pm with the presentation beginning at 7:00.

The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
